“My experience working with Atieno has been profound and life-changing. I was embroiled in an intense conflict and wanted someone to help me keep my head above water. I’ve become much more effective, with new skills that let me maintain my balance in the face of huge passions (mine and others’!) In every session she offers some insight that helps me unlock something important and has given me practical tools. As Atieno helped me explore, I began making some shifts. I started feeling lighter, more flexible and balanced.”

N.

My experience with Atieno was the breakthrough I had no idea I needed. It was a catalyst in my healing journey to break through barriers I had been carrying and to pursue freedom from pain and trauma.

De Bolton, CPT,CES

Atieno is a truly gifted healer. I feel fully safe and supported having her guide me through whatever comes up in our sessions.

Julia Parker, Landscape Designer

“I am very thankful – Atieno is a gem. At the end of every session I am left feeling confident and clear.”

Joshua S.,San Francisco

“I am so grateful! Atieno was able to help me clearly discern the next steps – this was hugely helpful. She was both affirming and prepared to say the difficult things I needed to hear. I really appreciate this about her coaching. She is a great resource, too, in terms of her knowledge of different approaches to dealing with all sorts of life challenges (challenges in work, love, personal, health, etc.). Finally, I must say how much appreciated how REAL she is.”

Soula P.

“Atieno’s coaching has helped me overcome personal blocks and learn the trick to not “getting in my own way.” She is extremely empathetic and helps her clients cut through to their core issues. I came to her at a point when I was flat out confused about my path. Her coaching has helped me set boundaries and define issues in a way that helped me move forward.”

Monica S., Washington DC

“Wow! Exceptional Clarity with a lot of wisdom thrown in-a really wonderful experience. Dear Atieno, I am surprised how you added more ease in my life and I am now ready to take on a project that seemed a bit out of reach before!”

Ilene W., San Francisco.

“I worked with Atieno in 2014 for 8 months, and she was incredible. She really listened which was deeply healing. She patiently asked questions to help me get underneath my own story about myself or a situation, never judging, always supportive, while not afraid to show tough love and tell me how it is. Most of all, I liked that she gave me tasks or objectives at the end of each call to work on between sessions. This created accountability and made me feel empowered to take control of my own well being. Plus it is super convenient to do phone session. Plus more affordable. I would definitely work with her again.”

Katie A., Alexandria.

“You played an integral role in helping me develop better coping and conflict resolution skills during a very dark, intense chapter of my life, and I am so grateful. Truthfully, my relationships with myself, [X], and other people in my life have been amazing and so much more fulfilling and compassionate since then, largely because of your guidance. THANK YOU AGAIN!”

-X.

“Atieno sets individuals on a course to live the life they really want to be living using a unique blend of common sense and intuition, and backed by years of training. Atieno strikes the perfect balance with her no-nonsense approach to feedback blended with compassion.”

Melissa F., Manhattan

“I learned quite a bit about myself and some techniques for dealing with personality traits I never recognized as defense mechanisms before. I really liked Atieno’s enthusiasm and outgoing style more than anything else.”

Joaquin.

“I’m so grateful for another chance at being really healthy, something I haven’t been for many years. Now if I can just build up the muscles in my right leg, I’ll be able to bound up steps again! 🙂 The key thing is that I actually feel like doing it.”

The Special Sauce

Powerful Evidence-Based Methods

I use MAP and Psychodrama processes to catalyze important shifts. I have to give all credit to the methodologies, but the results truly are exceptional.

(2025 certification from the MAP Coaching Institute. Psychodrama Certified by the American Board of Examiners. ICF PCC CTI coach certified.)

MAP enables safe, gentle, simple, efficient, rapid, painless clearing of limiting memories and beliefs, following your own inner wisdom. First developed by Garry Flint, a therapist trained in hypnosis, NLP, and EMDR. The method relies on the client’s own subconscious and can deliver impressive results. MAP can be used in individual coaching and in topic-based group coaching.
{Learn more about MAP here}
Where appropriate, I integrate Psychodrama techniques and role theory principles to help reconfigure painful early imprints accessible to conscious memory, or to attract a desired future.
{ Learn a little about Psychodrama in my bio here }

I use Forum and Conflict Transformation principles to provide conditions for deep, authentic connection.

(Masters Degree in CT, certified in leading Forum by Mo Fathelbab of the IFO, and by CircleSpace as a Circles Guide.)

“Forum” is a decades-old tradition in elite membership organizations for business leaders, but the practice has several antecedents, such as encounter groups and T-groups. Groups of 6-10 counterparts, committed to confidentiality and attendance, meet regularly and, often with the guidance of skillful facilitation, connect at a deeply authentic level.

It makes all kinds of difference. From a 2024 Gartner survey: “Leaders who have utilized peer-connection-based learning experiences are 18% more likely to be enterprise leaders.”

Most leaders already know how to succeed. What they need is to reduce stress and make their success meaningful and enjoyable. I offer a sanctuary where worth is not earned and techniques are offered to help leaders build significant inner resiliency and regulation resources.

(ICF PCC level coach, Jane Macgruder Watkins Ap. Inq. trained, Heartmath certified, biodynamic training with Tonya Ridings, Eric Gentry Clinical Trauma Certified, yoga instructor per Don Stapleton.)

Executive Coaching is deep support for growth-driven leaders. It emerged from a variety of disciplines, all the way back to the Socratic method. Through curious questions and high expectations of the client’s wholeness, resourcefulness, and creativity, clients break through limitations and thrive.

I alchemize diverse collections of people to conjure the powerful and therapeutic dynamic available through group process.

(Trained in Arnie Mindell’s ProcessWork, Moreno’s Psychodrama, Forum, and as an experiential trainer/ adult learning specialist at EMU, Sacred Feminine Wisdom with Meredith Rom graduate, MBI Day Treatment Program facilitator, On the Inside trainer, IAGP Ukrainian Therapists’ Support volunteer, various trauma healing, somatic and mindfulness method trainings.)

Groups, if given the right principles and structures, and led with intuition, grace, care, and artistry, can provide intensely positive life-changing experience. Irvin Yalom wrote the classic text on groups, and identified the factors that contribute to healing. My groups are convened by shared topic/concern.

I’m skilled at having people feel safe enough to open up, asking questions that excavate dynamics, and  diagnosing from that data to design unique experiences that provide the conditions for change.

(I draw from my Watson Fellowship embedded with nonprofits around the world, my Masters in Conflict Transformation, employment in various Organizational Development units, story in consulting communities of practice, and years of retreat design and facilitation for government agencies.)

*“Resilience is the ability to respond to extreme stress with extraordinary competence. Numerous studies cite qualities such as intelligence, emotional flexibility, independence, sensitivity, curiosity, and the willingness to reach out for love and support as central components of resilience. Other protective factors include introspection, altruism, self-awareness, a sense of humor, optimism in the face of adversity, and a willingness to rely upon ones own inner resources… resilient people believed they had the ability to exercise some measure of control no matter how dire the circumstances in which they found themselves. Because they were committed to living as fully as possible, they developed their talents and abilities, acquired a high degree of personal discipline, and were willing to fight to preserve their own souls.”

“Helping, fixing, and serving represent three different ways of seeing life. When you help, you see life as weak. When you fix, you see life as broken. When you serve, you see life as whole.” Helping is based on inequality: “When we help we may inadvertently take away from people more than we could ever give them; we may diminish their self-esteem, their sense of worth, integrity and wholeness. When I help I am very aware of my own strength. But we don’t serve with our strength, we serve with ourselves. We draw from all of our experiences. Our limitations serve, our wounds serve, even our darkness can serve. The wholeness in us serves the wholeness in others and the wholeness of life.”
